Hacienda Limón
Arriba cacao at the foot of the Andes
Near the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador, almost 50 people work cultivating cacao on the 192 hectares of Hacienda Limón. Only Arriba cacao is grown here, a variety belonging to the Nacional cacao, native to Ecuador and threatened by more productive varieties.
The volcanic soil, rich in minerals, and the humid tropical climate create the ideal conditions for a delicately aromatic cacao. The German company 12Tree manages the hacienda and is working on the plantation's rehabilitation.
